Designing and Building Parallel Programs by Ian Foster
This is the main recommended text for the course. It is available to read free of charge on the web.
Introduction to Parallel Computing by Kumar, Grama, Gupta and Karypis, Benjamin/Cummings, 1994.
Very strong on algorithm design.
Parallel Processing Algorithms for GIS by Healy, Dowers, Gittings and Mineter, Taylor & Francis, 1998
A couple of case studies in lectures come from this book.
